Jim Langevin on the Issues

Here are some of the issues Congressman Langevin is working on for the people of Rhode Island:

Economy and Jobs

America is not only the greatest Democracy in the world, but also the strongest economic power in history. While the last few years have been difficult, Rhode Islanders have shown we are resilient, and I intend to ensure the United States continues to be a leader in the global economy. Since 2001, the Bush Administration has turned its back on policies that led the United States to the longest period of economic expansion in history during the 1990s. Read More...

Education

I believe strongly in supporting public schools, students and teachers. The passage of No Child Left Behind established a vision of schools holding all students to high standards and true equality of opportunity in education. In order to achieve true K - 12 education reform, the challenges reported by teachers, administrators and parents must be addressed. Read More...

Environment

Health Care

Social Security

Social Security provides a critical bulwark against poverty for a significant percentage of Rhode Island’s seniors. In fact, our state ranks among the top for residents over the age of 65. More than 191,000 Rhode Islanders are beneficiaries of Social Security. Read More...

Stem Cell Research
Research has shown that embryonic stem cells may be able to form virtually any cell type in the human body, giving them the potential to treat or cure countless diseases and injuries. As a result, nearly half of all Americans might benefit in some way from stem cell research. Read More...

Veterans
America's veterans are truly national heroes. They answered the call to defend our freedom and served our country in times of need. We must ensure that our soldiers and veterans receive the benefits, care and respect they deserve. Read More...
