Langevin Announces Community Endorsements

October 26, 2006:

(WARWICK, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin today thanked four seperate community groups for their endorsement of his reelection campaign. The endorsements came from the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the American Nurses Association, the Rhode Island State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police and the Alliance for Retired Americans.

"It is humbling to receive these endorsements," said Langevin. "When re-elected, I will continue to advocate for our troops, veterans and their families, affordable, quality health care for all and funding to keep our law enforcement officers safe and protected, among the many, many other issues that are important to my constituents."

According to the Veterans of Foreign Wars endorsement, Langevin was chosen because of his commitment to veterans, military personnel and national security and defense issues.

The American Nurses Association and Alliance for Retired Americans noted Langevin's commitment to health care as the reason for their endorsement. The Alliance for Retired Americans also applauded Langevin's leadership on issues such as making sure the prescription drug program benefits seniors, ensuring the financial stability of the Social Security, retirement and pension security systems and fighting for quality long term and nursing home care.

Langevin will spend the final days leading up to the election talking about the need to ensure that all Rhode Islanders feel secure – in their homes, in their communities and in their country. He believes the need for security transcends national and homeland security. It is about health care security, economic security, housing security, energy security and educational security.

"To me, national security is family security, and it is about all these issues and more," said Langevin. "I pledge to continue to work everyday as the Congressman of the Second Congressional District to make sure our children inherit a stronger country and a better world than the one we live in today."
