Providence Phoenix Endorses LangevinSeptember 07, 2006:(WARWICK, R.I.) The Providence Phoenix announced this week that they are endorsing Congressman Jim Langevin for re-election to Rhode Island's Second Congressional District. "It is both humbling and energizing to receive the Phoenix's endorsement," said Langevin. "When re-elected, I will continue to advocate for affordable health care, a comprehensive national energy policy, a cleaner environment, fair immigration policies and tax policies that work for Rhode Island's working families, among the many, many other issues that are important to my constituents." "As demonstrated by his vote against the war in Iraq, Langevin has done a generally diligent job for his constituents," states the Phoenix. According to the Phoenix, Langevin's opponent "has not made a compelling enough case to replace him". Langevin will spend the final days leading up to the election talking about the need to ensure that all Rhode Islanders feel secure – in their homes, in their communities and in their country. He believes the need for security transcends national and homeland security. It is about health care security, economic security, housing security, energy security and educational security. "To me, national security is family security, and it is about all these issues and more," said Langevin. "I pledge to continue to work everyday as the Congressman of the Second Congressional District to make sure our children inherit a stronger country and a better world than the one we live in today." -30- |
