Langevin Announces Re-Election CampaignJune 19, 2006:(WARWICK, R.I.) Congressman Jim Langevin today officially kicked off his 2006 re-election bid at the Washington Fire Station in Coventry. Washington Fire Station Chief Brian Hoxsie emceed the event.
Langevin will spend the months leading up to the election talking about the need to ensure that all Rhode Islanders feel secure – in their homes, in their communities and in their country. He believes the need for security transcends national and homeland security. It is about health care security, economic security, housing security, energy security and educational security.
"To me, national security is family security, and it is about all these issues and more," said Langevin. "If our families are not secure, our country cannot be secure. From health care to homeland security, it will take our combined effort to ensure that this generation and those that follow are safe in their communities and proud of their country." Langevin recognizes that these are challenging times but that with the right leadership, they can also be times of great opportunity. "I pledge to continue to work everyday as the Congressman of the Second Congressional District to make sure our children inherit a stronger country and a better world than the one we live in today," continued Langevin. "And I look forward to continuing the journey we have already begun."
